What City Boiler is, and what it is not
City Boiler is not an installer. We do not fit boilers or heat pumps, and we are not Gas Safe registered or MCS certified ourselves. What we do is help you decide which system suits your home, then connect you with one independent, certified local installer who gives you a fixed price. The contract for the work is between you and that installer.
How it works
- Tell us about your home. The quote form asks what you need, your postcode, a few details about your home and how to contact you. It takes a couple of minutes.
- Get a straight recommendation. Boiler, heat pump or a repair. If the honest answer is a cheaper new combi rather than a heat pump, we will say so. Our boiler or heat pump guide shows how we think about it.
- Hear from one installer. With your consent, we pass your details to one independent installer covering your area. They contact you, check anything they need to, and give you a fixed price in writing.
- Decide in your own time. Accept the price and you book the work with the installer directly. Turn it down and nothing more happens.
The right certification for each job
| Job | The installer must be |
|---|---|
| Gas boiler replacement or repair | Gas Safe registered |
| Air source or ground source heat pump | MCS certified, which is also needed to claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in England and Wales |
| Oil boiler replacement | OFTEC registered |
You can check a gas engineer on the Gas Safe Register and a heat pump installer on the MCS website. We would rather you checked than took our word for it.
The checks we require
Before an installer can receive introductions through City Boiler, we require:
- current Gas Safe, MCS or OFTEC registration for the work they quote on, confirmed against the public register
- public liability insurance in force
- fixed, written quotes that name the boiler or heat pump model, its output and the warranty
- a heat loss survey before quoting any heat pump
- registration of the finished work with the relevant body and the manufacturer warranty
These are our requirements for installers, and they cannot guarantee any individual job. Always ask to see the engineer’s ID and read the written quote before you agree to anything.
Free to ask, and how we are paid
Asking costs you nothing. We may be paid by installers for introductions, and we would rather tell you that plainly than leave you guessing. It does not add a fee to your quote, and it does not decide our recommendation. Our job is to point you at the right system for the house, even when that is the smaller job.
What we will not do
- Send your details to a list of companies.
- Push a heat pump into a home that will not suit one, or a boiler into one that would.
- Hide prices behind a phone call. Typical prices are on every page of the boiler replacement, heat pump installation and boiler repair sections.
Common questions
Is City Boiler an installer?
No. We do not fit boilers or heat pumps and we are not Gas Safe registered or MCS certified ourselves. We connect you with an independent local installer who holds the right registration for the job.
Does it cost anything to ask for a price?
No. Asking costs you nothing and there is no obligation. If you do not like the fixed price, say no and that is the end of it.
How does City Boiler make money?
We may be paid by installers for introductions. That never changes what you pay for the job, which is the fixed price the installer quotes you directly, and it does not change the recommendation we give.
Will my details be sent to lots of companies?
No. With your consent, your details go to one installer, not a list. You can read how we handle your information in our Privacy Policy.
